SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.26 g, 2 h), obverse die signed by Eu(menes?), reverse die signed by Eukleidas, circa 415-405. Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer with a wreath; below horses, EY; in exergue, dolphin and fish to right; around, four dolphins. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIO[И] Head of Arethousa to left, wearing pearl necklace; behind, EY. Fischer-Bossert, Coins, 32 = Tudeer 32 (V11/R22). SNG ANS 263 (same dies). SNG Fitzwilliam 1244 (same dies). Nicely toned and with clear signatures and a delicate rendering of Arethousa. Minor flan faults on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
